Ongoma drumming : The Natives are restless. Ongoma, a group of talented musicians based in Windhoek, Namibia, honors this, respecting the customs of our ancestors while re-inventing contemporary African music on a variety of different, exciting platforms. http://www.ongoma.com Our philosophy is simple: music is our culture; it is the vehicle to express ourselves and feed our families. Our destination is to take our rightful position on the world stage. This grouped performed a couple of weekends ago at a place called Long Beach. Dunes of the Namib : In the Nama language, Namib means vast. An understatement when you're confronted with the endless orange dunes of the parched Namib desert. The Namib is one of the oldest and largest deserts in the world and is protected by the Namib-Naukluft Park - a 50 000km2 wonderland of shifting sands and colourful dunes, amazing lines and curves in colours from bright orange to red to pink to brown. Light more fragile than glass and photo opportunities around every dune. This album is to house my overflow of Namib dune photos. Some abstract, other less so. Sit back and enjoy.

2011 - Project 365 sunset/sunrise : Swakopmund, Namibia I decided rather late in the year to start something like a daily picture album. For me it's either sunrise and sunset. No matter if it's pretty or not. I think it will be grand to see at the end of a year all the different ways a day can start or end. Swakopmund is wedge in between the cold Atlantic ocean and the hot Namib desert. This two extremes meet and form a thick fog band that moves in and out like a living organism. In a normal year we mostly live inside what we call a wall of darkness. This summer has been extra ordinary. Namibia has seen more rain than ever before in recorded history. Swakopmund that never ever see clouds or rain had rain storms, thunder and lighting. It feels like we have an endless summer, with clouds, rain and breathtaking sunset. As i write this on the 4th of April we are just entering what would normally be autumn. Soon our sunset might be obscured behind the fog and will the prevailing south-western wind make us cold to the bone.

Namibia : Namibia, situated on the South western part of Africa, is an arid, rough land. A different world . . . very inviting...... strangely familiar. Namibia is a photographer's dreamland, a land of contrasts and clear colours. If you love nature, stillness, grandiose landscapes, desert and wide open spaces, you will become attached to Namibia. It is one of the most scarcely populated countries on earth and afford it's people bountiful space. The wind-whipped coast with innumerable shipwrecks stretches all along the hostile Namib desert. The orange-red dunefields are up to 150 kilometres wide with the mightiest dunes being up to 400 metres high. It is the oldest desert of the earth with a unique flora and fauna. Namibia with its friendly, natural people, with endless thornbush savannah, Mopane bushland, Makalani palms and Baobabs, with lions and elephants, zebras and giraffes, an animal world as rich in species as no other on earth. Namibia is one of those dreamlike places that make you question whether something so visually orgasmic could actually exist. Time and space are less defined here. Landscapes collide. Experiences pile up. Enjoy

Dandilion Project : The Dandilion project came to live after discovering a few plants in my mothers garden. Part of the Project was to try my hand at stacking photos and the use of a friends macro lense. What fun. Maybe not the best object to try your hand at for stacking, but fun. Saving Olive : Today has not been your usual Sunday... An elephant fell into a septic tank at a local lodge in the Ugab river! an amazing group of local Namibian campers had been working since the early morning to help her out. The elephant is Olive from the Ugab Small herd which is monitored by Elephant Human Relationship Aid. Olive stood in the septic tank for over 12 hours. She was very calm while the volunteers plan her extraction from the septic tank. The rescue mission consisted of pumping the grey water out and then fill the hole with rocks and sand until she is high enough to step out. All of this took 5 hours in mid day heat hovering around 40 degrees C. Well done to all those who helped. The Ugab river forms the border between the West Coast Recreation Area and the Skeleton Coast Park, and as with most other ephemeral Namib rivers, large and small, the Ugab flows through that park. Before reaching the Skeleton Coast the Ugab flows just north of the Brandberg Mountain (the highest mountain in Namibia). Various camping grounds and lodges dot the riverbed and work with the local Damara people in areas called concessions.

I am from Namibia (Africa) and live in a town on the west coast called Swakopmund.
Namibia is a photographer’s dream – it boasts wild seascapes, rugged mountains, lonely deserts, stunning wildlife, remnance of colonial cities and most importantly, space. It is one of the least populated places in the world.
It's horizons are wide and its skies open. The spirit of Africa dwells in wild places and it's incredible diversity. It's a place of infinite space and beauty .... a place of texture and shape, of light and colour.
My hart belongs here, Africa lives in my soul.
I hope to capture some of this beauty and share it with you.

I got bitten by the photographers bug in May 2007 while on holiday in Botswana. Since then I bought my own camera and various lenses. I am in the process of learning and experimenting. It is a great journey!!
